Message From the Principal
Welcome to St Philip’s Theological College (SPTC)
As the Principal of St Philip’s Theological College, it is my distinct privilege and joy to warmly welcome you to our official digital gateway.
Nestled under the scenic slopes of the Kibolyani Mountain range in the Kongwa District—just an hour’s drive from Tanzania’s capital city of Dodoma—St Philip’s stands as a beacon of hope, faith, and transformative learning. We operate proudly as an evangelical theological institution under the Anglican Province of Tanzania and the spiritual leadership of the Primate of Tanzania, welcoming students from diverse dioceses, ecumenical denominations, and international backgrounds.
Our unique location outside the hustle and bustle of the capital city is one of our greatest blessings. Removed from urban distractions, our campus offers a serene, peaceful sanctuary where the mind can focus and the spirit can rest. The quiet majesty of the surrounding countryside creates an ideal, conducive environment for rigorous academic study, deep prayer, and uninterrupted reflection—allowing our students to truly immerse themselves in their formative journey.
Founded in 1914, St Philip’s has spent more than 110 years answering the scriptural mandate of equipping the saints for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:12). Over the course of our rich history, we have trained hundreds of faithful church leaders, clergy, evangelists, catechists, and social workers who continue to impact society both within Tanzania and across the globe. This deep legacy of over a century makes our institution one of the most trusted and experienced providers of theological education in the country.
At St Philip’s, we believe in a holistic approach to mission. Beyond strict academic and deep spiritual formation, our contemporary programs are uniquely designed to address the practical needs of modern ministry and community transformation. We offer a versatile curriculum ranging from foundational Certificates and Diplomas to our newly envisioned university-affiliated Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) degree pathway.
Furthermore, our campus is vibrant with hands-on community projects, including:
- Disability Studies & Inclusive Ministry: Actively championing human dignity, advocacy, and full church participation for vulnerable groups and people living with disabilities.
- Vocational Training & Self-Reliance: Equipping students and local community members with practical skills in carpentry, plumbing, welding, and electrical works.
- Environmental Stewardship & Agriculture: Harnessing sustainable technologies, such as modern drip irrigation and eco-conservation projects.
- Heritage Preservation: Preserving the long missionary and ecclesiastical history of our region through our dedicated institutional Archives and Heritage Centre.
Whether you are a prospective student looking to deepen your theological understanding, a church leader seeking a dedicated, quiet sanctuary for a spiritual retreat, or a global partner looking to invest in faithful servant leadership, there is a place for you here.
We invite you to explore our website, discover our programs, and join hands with us as we continue building spiritually mature leaders for the Church and society.
In Christ’s Service,
The Principal
